KUWAIT CITY, KUWAIT / MENA Newswire / – Kuwait restored normal air traffic after a temporary airspace closure, and flights resumed at Kuwait International Airport, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation said. The authority said operations restarted after coordination with relevant state bodies and after aviation safety checks cleared the airport to receive flights.

The closure followed missile and drone attacks that Kuwaiti authorities attributed to Iran. Officials said the measure aimed to protect passengers, crews, and civil aviation facilities. The aviation authority said emergency procedures took effect during the suspension, including flight diversions to nearby airports.

Kuwaiti airspace closed from 4:15 a.m. to 6:15 a.m. local time. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation said air traffic resumed at 6:15 a.m. after the situation stabilized. The restart allowed arriving flights to return to Kuwait International Airport and enabled carriers to resume scheduled operations.

    Airspace reopened after closure

Eleven flights operated by Kuwait Airways and Jazeera Airways were diverted during the two-hour closure. Authorities said the diversions went to neighboring airports to maintain passenger and crew safety. Flights that diverted to Dammam and Riyadh later returned to their planned Kuwait routes.

Kuwait International Airport continued handling flight activity after the reopening. Airport flight information pages showed arrivals, departures, airline directory services, and timetable tools for travelers. Authorities urged passengers to check flight status with their airlines before heading to the airport because schedules can change during security incidents.

    Flights diverted during shutdown

The resumption came after earlier disruption at the airport during the same period of regional tension. Kuwait had also restored Terminal 1 operations for Arab and foreign airlines under a gradual reopening plan. Kuwait Airways and Jazeera Airways had resumed services from their terminals as authorities cleared facilities for use.

The latest reopening returned Kuwait air traffic to normal after the short suspension. Civil aviation officials said they coordinated with competent authorities before resuming flights. The airport remains Kuwait’s main international gateway, and the restoration of flight operations allowed passengers and airlines to continue travel after the precautionary halt.
